Hyderabad: The Mailardevpally police on Saturday caught three persons on charges of cheating people by selling tampered vehicle engines and chassis numbers in the guise of the latest model vehicles.
Police seized five trucks worth Rs 50 lakh from Shaik Haji (50) of Nampally, Mohd Anwar Kohar (45) of Bahadurpura and Mohd Naser (38) of Bahadurpura. One suspect Mohd Khaled, is absconding. Police said the suspects were in the business of buying and selling old and condemned vehicles from financiers at a low rate. They would change the engine number, chassis number and registration number.
“They then fixed new and modified chassis, engine and registration number and prepared fake documents,” an official said, adding that the gang sold the vehicles to truck drivers at higher rates, thereby cheating people and the government.
