Hyderabad to be positioned as global biotech hub: Sridhar Babu
Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu inaugurated the Rs 1,200-crore TheraNym Biologics facility in Sangareddy, highlighting Hyderabad’s growing role as a global biotechnology hub.

Sangareddy: Minister for Information Technology and Industries D Sridhar Babu on Wednesday said the State government was taking steps to position Hyderabad as a major hub for advanced medical research, including biologics, vaccines, cell and gene therapies, and treatments for cancer and rare diseases.
Speaking after inaugurating the Rs 1,200-crore TheraNym Biologics manufacturing facility in Aurobindo Pharmaceuticals Limited at Borpatla village in Hatnoora mandal of Sangareddy district, the Minister said a comprehensive roadmap was being prepared to create a world-class ecosystem supporting the entire value chain, from research and development to commercial-scale manufacturing.
Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad, already recognised as the country’s pharmaceutical capital, was being further strengthened as a global biotechnology destination. He said emerging technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence and advanced genetics would reshape the biotechnology sector. The IT and Industries Minister said that the state was taking strategic measures to attract investments and leverage future opportunities.
Highlighting key initiatives such as the life sciences policy, One Bio Hub, green pharma city and life sciences hub, the Minister said these projects would enhance the global presence of the “Made in Telangana” brand in the life sciences sector.
He said the government was focusing not only on creating world-class infrastructure but also on developing an industry-ready workforce to meet the growing demands of the sector. He urged pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to partner with the State government in skill development initiatives aimed at creating a future-ready talent pool.
Describing the Theranym Biologics facility as a significant milestone in Telangana’s efforts to emerge as a global life sciences hub, Sridhar Babu reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting industrial investments and fostering innovation-driven growth.
According to the management of the company, the facility will manufacture advanced therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and other life-threatening diseases and export them to several countries, including the United States. The project is expected to generate employment for more than 1,500 people.
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, TGIIC Chairperson Nirmala Jagga Reddy, and representatives of Theranym Biologics were present on the occasion.
