Hyderabad: Promising to reduce the commuting time and distance between Shaikpet and Jubilee Hills, the State government is building the fifth steel bridge in the city. The 290 metre four-lane steel bridge is being built by the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Ltd ( HRDCL) at an estimated cost of Rs.23 crore in Silent Lake Valley, Road Number 51, Jubilee Hills.
The other facilities are located in Punjagutta (two steel bridges ), Indira Park – VST Junction and Malakpet. The new facility is likely to be made available to people by January 2022.
As per the Detailed Project Report (DPR), apart from reducing the traffic congestion in and around Road Number 51, the project will ensure better connectivity and lesser commuting distance. As on date, the average distance to reach Road Number 45 Jubilee Hills from Shaikpet via Silent Lake Valley is around five kilometres, but once this facility gets ready, the distance will come down to 3.5 km.
Currently, the road connecting Shaikpet and Road Number 45 Jubilee Hills has heavy traffic and the new bridge will ease traffic on that stretch. Engineers monitoring the project said heavy vehicles can also ply on the bridge. “As the bridge is four-laned, there will be no congestion. It can take the load of heavy vehicles too,” a HRDCL engineer said.
The corporation is also laying service roads to improve the connectivity between Shaikpet and Jubilee Hills. Meanwhile, residents of Silent Lake Valley said the service road in their area, which is closed on one side, should be opened to ensure seamless commuting.
“The bridge will provide a relief to commuters and congestion on this road will reduce, but to ensure hassle free traffic movement, the road that has been blocked should be opened,” said E Raghavan, a resident of the area. As of now, commuters reaching Road Number 45 from Road Number 51 are forced to traverse through D K Nagar due to the blocked service road and missing link.
