Hyderabad to have non-stop flight to the United States

Hyderabad: The city will soon have a direct flight to the United States, with the GMR-led Hyderabad International Airport announcing a non-stop Air India flight to Chicago from January 15.

According to an official note from the airport, the airline would be operating with a Boeing 777-200 aircraft, with a seat capacity of 238 (8 First Class + 35 Business Class + 195 Economy Class).

Hyderabad-USA-Hyderabad has been the largest unserved passenger Origin & Destination market between India and the US, with a potential of over 7,00,000 passengers annually. Hyderabad is a gateway to South & Central India, and is a preferred and the largest transit hub, the note said, adding with the city offering convenient proximity for passengers from nearby cities like Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Rajahmundry, Bhopal and Tirupati, there would be an additional demand of about 2,20,000 passengers annually.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd CEO Pradeep Panicker said the new non-stop route connecting Hyderabad and Chicago was on the airport’s connectivity wish list for quite some time.

Hyderabad being a second home to US giants such as Amazon, Microsoft, Apple and Google among others, the flight has immense potential, officials said, adding that it would also come as a big relief for the Telugu diaspora from the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh regions.

Meanwhile, under the Air Transport Bubble arrangement, airlines like British Airways have also resumed operations connecting Hyderabad to the UK and beyond, while Emirates, Etihad, Fly Dubai and Air Arabia have resumed their services connecting Hyderabad with various destinations in the United Arab Emirates. Qatar Airways has also reconnected Hyderabad with Doha, the capital city of Qatar.

· Air India to connect Hyderabad with Chicago from Jan 15
· To serve over seven lakh passengers annually
· Over 2.2 lakh passengers from surroundings of Hyderabad annually
· Boeing 777-200 aircraft, with seat capacity of 238 to operate.
