Hyderabad: Hyderabad will host the World Junior 10K Run on 1 February at Gachibowli Stadium, marking a major initiative to promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles among children.
The event is being organised by Spotonn Sports under the aegis of SATG, with support from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
Asian Games 2022 bronze medalist and Asian Championships 2025 gold medalist, Telangana’s renowned heptathlete Agasara Nandini, unveiled the World Junior 10K Run poster on Sunday at Botanical Gardens, Gachibowli.
The World Junior 10K Run is a children-exclusive competitive running event designed for participants aged 3 to 18 years. Speaking on the occasion, Rohit Mishra, CEO of Spotonn Sports, along with Race Curator Ruchi Sharma, said the event seeks to inculcate fitness as a lifelong habit while encouraging confidence, discipline and sportsmanship among young participants.
The race will be conducted across four distance categories: a 1 km Costume Run, and timed races of 3 km, 5 km and 10 km, enabling children from different age groups to participate based on their ability and endurance. In a notable step towards inclusivity, the event will also introduce a timed race category for specially-abled children, making it one of the few such initiatives in the city.
The World Junior 10K Run is the first children-only timed competitive running event in Hyderabad and is envisioned as a multi-city initiative to promote fitness, healthy living and self-belief among young athletes.
Reporting for the event will begin at 5 AM at Gachibowli Stadium. Over 50 schools and 3,000 children are expected to participate, with nearly 1,200 registrations already confirmed. In the lead-up to the event, the organising team has conducted several boot camps, practice sessions and school assembly programmes across schools, public parks and residential communities.
A total of 84 prizes will be awarded across various age categories. All participants will receive an event T-shirt, breakfast and hydration, a goodie bag, a medal, a certificate, an e-voucher and free race photographs.
The organisers expressed their gratitude to Meru International School, Ryan International School, Silver Oaks International School, Akshara International School, DPS Kollur, Kompally and Patancheru.
