Hyderabad: Two Footover Bridges (FoBs) at Deepthisri Nagar and PJR Nagar under the Chandanagar circle of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) were inaugurated on Thursday.
Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi, who inaugurated the facilities along with Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, said Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao and MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao were paying special focus on improving basic amenities in the city. Several initiatives were taken up to make Hyderabad a signal free city, she said.
Several other works too have been taken up to improve greenery and to address issues faced during monsoon apart from projects to streamline traffic flow and create facilities for pedestrians, the Mayor said.
Speaking on the occasion, Gandhi said the new FoBs would help pedestrians cross the road safely as the highway had heavy vehicular movement.
While the first pedestrian facility at PJR Enclave Road- NH65 was built with Rs.5.20 crore, the one at Deepthisri Nagar – NH65 built was set up with a budget of Rs.5.50 crore. Both the FoBs were equipped with elevators and escalators.
The 38.97-metre long FoB at Deepthisri Nagar would benefit the pedestrians crossing NH65 to reach commercial establishments and houses located in Ramakrishna Nagar, Dwaraka Nagar, Madinaguda Village, Deepthisri Nagar, Adarsh Nagar and Shanti Nagar. The 36m-facility at PJR Enclave Road would benefit pedestrians crossing NH65 and going towards KSR Layout, Aparna Towers, Engineers Enclave, RTC Colony, Gangaram Building and HUDA Colony.
According to the GHMC, pedestrian movement at Deepthisri Nagar entrace road in 2020 was 1,700 pedestrian crossings per day and the expected pedestrian movement by 2035 was 2,100. Similarly, at PJR Enclave Road, it was 1,500 pedestrian crossings per day in 2020 which was expected to rise to 2,000 pedestrian crossings per day by 2035.
