Hyderabad: Two persons including an infant suffered burns when a group of people set on fire the house of a man who was allegedly harassing a woman at Alwal on Tuesday night.

According to the police, Pradeep, who works as an outsourcing employee with GHMC, is a resident of Alwal. He stays with his father Prakash, mother Hemalatha, and other relatives including an infant Chandini aged four months.

On Tuesday evening, a group of people including Vivek and Lakshmi, who are the brother-in-law and mother of a woman came to the house of Pradeep and enquired about him. When his parents Prakash and Hemalatha came out and discussed the issue, Lakshmi and others abused them and alleged that Pradeep was harassing their daughter and it continued despite him being warned previously.

“In a fit of rage, some persons in the group threw petrol on the couple and in the house. After the articles caught fire, the suspects ran away from the place. The local people rushed and doused the flames and shifted the injured Chandini, Prakash and Hemalatha, to hospital where they are undergoing treatment,” said an official of Alwal police station.

Prakash suffered nearly 50 per cent burns while the infant girl sustained burns and is undergoing treatment.

The police registered a case and are investigating.
