Hyderabad: Members of the United Federation of RWAs (Uferwas), Cyberabad chapter, on Monday threatened legal action if Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) officials failed to address, within 15 days, the damage caused by the collapse of an allegedly illegal building at Jaya Darsini Residency in Anjayya Nagar, Gachibowli.
The seven-storey building collapsed on August 22, killing two workers and severely damaging portions of flats in the neighbouring apartment complex.
In an official release, Uferwas said the building, constructed on a 75-square-yard plot, had destroyed bedrooms in the GHMC-approved apartment complex, leaving flat owners without their homes and life savings. Uferwas alleged that no compensation had been paid or action taken against the builder, while authorities had only provided assurances and collected samples.
Uferwas said it would pursue the matter jointly with the Jaya Darsini Residency Welfare Association. It demanded the immediate release of the structural safety report and repair or reconstruction of the damaged flats at the violator’s or government’s expense.
It also sought full compensation for property losses and rental expenses, demolition of the remaining illegal structure, disciplinary action against officers who allowed it and a structural safety audit of all buildings in Anjayya Nagar lane.
Uferwas members said they would advise the association to approach the court for compensation if the civic body failed to act. They would separately file a PIL on behalf of victims of illegal construction across Cyberabad.
