Hyderabad: The death of a two-month-old baby, whose body was found in a water sump, has turned out to be a cold-blooded murder, with his aunt being arrested by the Abdullapurmet police on Saturday.

According to the police, the suspect, Oruganthi Swetha (21) of Anajpur, killed her nephew since she had an issue with his mother D Latha. Police said Latha had taunted Swetha a few months ago after the latter underwent an abortion due to health issues, and said she would not have children. The sisters-in-law were not in good terms after that, and a week ago, Swetha decided to kill Latha’s baby, Uma Maheshwar.

“On Friday around 3.30 am, Swetha took the child while his mother was asleep and took him to the terrace. When she failed to strangle him to death, she threw him in the water tank,” said K Purushotham Reddy, ACP (Vanasthalipuram).
