Hyderabad: The students of the All India OBC Students’ Association (AIOBCSA) on Friday protested at the main gate of the University of Hyderabad demanding that a caste census is an immediate need.
They have planned to send one lakh postcards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to urge him to conduct a caste census. The students are also taking their protest online by initiating a 10 lakh Twitter campaign with the hashtag #ConductCasteCensus.
“We request you (PM Modi) to conduct a caste census for taking inclusive policy decisions and making effective social welfare schemes. Caste census will give empirical data to the government to give OBCs their share in the development process,” the postcard reads.
The President of AIOBCSA Kiran Kumar believes that it is the union government’s responsibility to conduct a caste census in 2021 in order to give answers to questions related to social justice, inclusiveness, and equality.
