The culture of Hyderabad and its bed on the Deccan plateau have always mesmerised people not only in India but around the world. This time again, the city is being highlighted at an exhibition by the Indian Photo Festival in partnership with the Bordeaux Metropole in Bordeaux, France. Part of this exhibition is renowned photographer Kommidi Vishwender Reddy’s photographs of the ‘Deccan Rocks’, clicked by him over the span of ten years.
Talking about his interest in photographing Deccan rocks, Vishwender shares, “These heritage acidic rocks, which are unique only to the Deccan plateau, are known for their high balancing strengths. So, as a conservation photographer, I wanted to highlight how these unique rocks are being destroyed in the name of development.”
The photographer has also done exhibitions in New Zealand and Australia to throw light about the destruction.
“My idea is to bring awareness to people about the beauty of these rocks which are aged around 2,500 million years now. We conservation photographers are also requesting the government to protect and conserve a few rock sites,” the photographer quips.

He mentions that 150 acres of unique rock formations near Medak can be turned into a beautiful rock garden of international standards.
The Indian Photo Festival is going to be held at the Public Garden of Bordeaux from August 11 to September 24. Hyderabad being highlighted at such an international platform is surely a proud moment for the city dwellers.
