Hyderabad: While the pandemic did lead to extended forms of isolation adversely impacting society and resulting in loneliness and anxiety, Hyderabadis seem to have not lost the need to build real relationships. As per a survey conducted by MyGate, nearly 100 per cent respondents from Hyderabad acknowledged the need to build real relationships to combat stress and anxiety as compared with 74 per cent in Kochi and 60 per cent in Chennai.

“The quest for real relationships has resulted in better bonding with the neighbours and support staff. While close friends continue to be anchor points, Hyderabadis are now more open to reaching out to their neighbours in case they need any help as compared to pre-Covid times,” the survey said.

Furthermore, relative to other cities in the South, residents of Hyderabad seem to have developed a comfortable relationship even with the support staff. About 39 per cent respondents in Hyderabad were open to leaving their house key with the security guard; this was only 0.91 per cent in Kochi, 4.26 per cent in Chennai and 9.68 per cent in Bangalore.

Also, during the pandemic, Hyderabad (79 per cent) came in second, after Bangalore (81 per cent) among cities in the South when it came to helping and rewarding support staff (watchman, maid, plumber etc.) with salary or food and groceries.

Abhishek Kumar, COO and co-founder, MyGate, said, “It is interesting that Hyderabadis felt the need for ‘real relationships’ more so than any other Southern city, and so strongly acknowledged improved connections and deepening bonds within the neighbourhood.”

The report also highlighted that Hyderabadis tend to form a deeper bond with their ecosystem so much so that only 40.73 per cent turn to technology to verify/validate the credibility of service providers, such as electricians and plumbers, while the rest (59.27 per cent) tend to rely on service providers who have been visiting their building/home for years or those suggested by their neighbours. In addition, 84 per cent respondents in Hyderabad preferred personal visits from friends and relatives.
