Hyderabad: Another year has almost passed in the pandemic and Hyderabadis are feeling optimistic about stepping into 2022.
Hoping this is the last year they hear of Covid-19 and its new variants, youngsters are planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve with close friends and family at home, fearful of catching Omicron.
Although the State government accorded permission to bars and event managers to serve liquor up to 1 am on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1, citizens are choosing to ring in the New Year by throwing house parties full of music, food, and good times.
“Since it’s my baby’s first New Year, I planned on throwing a huge party but thanks to Omicron, we decided to have yet another intimate gathering. My family, my parents, and my in-laws have planned to get together for prayer and dinner,” shared Ratna Priya Makka, HR Assistant at Microsoft.
City-based socialite Bina Mehta, too, has cut down on elaborate celebrations this year. “By now, we all have learned the art of enjoying with just a small group of friends. We live in a villa in a gated community and all of us plan to welcome 2022 with a delicious spread of food and karaoke,” shared Bina.
For Nazia Abdul Khadeer, 2021 has been a year of ups and downs. Yet, being a Hyderabadi, she believes in having hope and faith at all times. “I’m planning to stay home and ring in the New Year with a fun-filled party at home with my near and dear ones. I hope we all spread more love and kindness in 2022,” says Nazia, a Frontline Manager at a social media company.
Meanwhile, Sahithi Polamraju wishes to celebrate the big day with her family members. “We’ve all suffered because of Covid, so I’ll be staying at home and cherishing every moment with their happiness and laughter. All I hope for 2022 is, may the world heal itself and everyone stays healthy,” says Sahithi, Risk Investigator at Amazon.
Last NYE, Hyderabadis were seen partying the night away at several famous pubs in the city. This year, Prism Club & Kitchen, Amnesia, Hard Rock, Heart Cup, Artistry, Frat House, and 10D, among others have listed out parties happening on December 31 night.
“I might be partying at The Hoppery with my colleagues or will attend the bonfire storytelling event at Paaka Organic Café at Nallagandla,” says Yashwanth, adding that he cannot imagine staying indoors after having a rather difficult 2021.
