Hyderabad: D V Manohar of India and Chairman, Hyderabad Bicycling Club; has been elected as the First Vice President of World Cycling Alliance (WCA), Brussels, for a three years term.
This organization promotes cycling all over the world and consists of International and National Cycling Associations from all continents as members.
The other elected office bearers to WCA are: President: Mr Henk Swarttouw, Netherlands, President, European Cyclists Federation and Former Ambassador of Netherlands to Denmark. Second Vice President: Ms Ana Carboni, Brazil, President, UCB – Brazilian Cyclists Union. Treasurer: Mr Christian Haag, Australia, CEO, Bike SA. Vice President: MrChengnon Hsu, Taiwan, President, Formosa Lohas Cycling Association. Vice President: Mr Emmanuel John, Nigeria, President, Africa Urban Cycling Organisation.
Manohar is a former Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (Unified AP) and is a first-generation entrepreneur. He is the founder Chairman of Hyderabad based Shri Shakti Group, whose latest venture SmartBike emerged as India’s leading Public Bike Sharing Company.
He cycled from London to Paris twice along with his son Dharmin and daughter Deekshita, covering the road distance of 516 kms in less than four days. Under his leadership, Hyderabad Bicycling Club emerged as one of the leading cycling clubs with over 16000 members. He continues to be active in CII.
