Hyderabad: With the State government prohibiting public gatherings due to the Covid-19 Omicron variant threat, the annual All India Industrial Exhibition, popular as Numaish, has been suspended till January 10.

The State government had on January 1 prohibited all rallies, public meetings and mass gatherings of all kinds including religious, political and cultural till January 10 to curb spread of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, members of the All India Industrial Exhibition (AIIE) Society on Monday held a meeting to discuss the future course of action. Officials said the society had decided to close the exhibition voluntarily.

“To comply with the orders released by the State government, we decided to close the exhibition voluntarily. Neither the government officials nor cops approached us asking us to close Numaish,” the official said.

This year, around 1,600 stalls were set up by traders from different parts of the country. Stalls displaying a range of dry fruits and nuts and clothing from various States including Chennai, Kashmir, Gujarat, West Bengal etc., had already been set up at the Numaish.
