Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s TK Diliep is the new Team India fielding coach. He will succeed his fellow Hyderabadi R Sridhar, who has stepped down along with head coach Ravi Shastri and bowling coach Bharat Arun.
The 38-year-old had applied for the post and looked a strong contender. His last assignment was with the Indian team that played one-day and T20 series in Sri Lanka earlier this year. The new Head coach Rahul Dravid, who was with Indian team in Sri Lanka, was pretty impressed with Diliep’s work ethics.
The Hyderabad fielding coach has been part of the India A support staff and had toured New Zealand earlier this year.
In the past Diliep had always spoken of it highly. “I always looked up to Sridhar sir. He always helped me with new ideas on fielding drills. Of course he has an inspiration for all of us.”
Diliep was a bowling all-rounder in his playing days. He played for Cheerful Club, New Blues and Deccan Chargers. However, he had the passion for coaching from a young age. He wrote his level 1 examination in 2004. He always wanted to develop his knowledge of the game.
His first coaching assignment was when he was made coach of the State under-14 team. But he feels the real exposure he got when he had the opportunity to train with Trevor Penny when he was the fielding coach of the now defunct Deccan Chargers.
Diliep was also the fielding coach of Hyderabad Ranji team before he joined the support staff of Indian team that toured South Africa in 2018. He has never looked back since then.
