Hyderabad: Demolition of an illegal compound wall surrounding Divyanagar Layout, which allegedly blocked access to several colonies and residential areas, was carried out by HYDRAA at Pocharam municipality in Ranga Reddy district on Saturday.

The action was taken following complaints by plot owners against Nalla Malla Reddy, who had allegedly built a compound wall around Divyanagar Layout and installed gates, preventing others from entering.

Earlier, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath personally inspected the spot on January 8 in response to these complaints.

Residents of nearby residential colonies have alleged that roads connecting their homes and neighbouring layouts were blocked by the compound wall, causing significant inconvenience. Several residents expressed distress, stating that the closure of roads had them struggling to sell their plots in the layouts.

Complaints were also raised about the collection of layout development charges, but the promised infrastructure like sewage systems and roads was not built. Instead, a massive compound wall and gates were erected, restricting access for plot owners.

Residents claimed they were not allowed to visit or show their plots to others unless they sought permission during specific times decided by Nalla Malla Reddy. Entry was reportedly allowed only after recording their details in a register at the gate, and final approval would rest with him. Allegations of physical intimidation were also raised by those who questioned the restrictions.

After hearing both sides, the Commissioner confirmed that there were no permissions for the construction of the compound wall. As a result, orders for its demolition were issued.

On Saturday, officials executed the Commissioner’s orders and began demolishing the compound wall.

Plot owners in Divyanagar Layout and residents of surrounding areas expressed relief after the demolition of the wall, which opened up access.

Divyanagar Layout, located in Survey No. 66 of Pocharam Municipality in Ranga Reddy district, spans around 200 acres, with a total of 2,218 plots. According to locals, 30 per cent of these plots reportedly belong to Nalla Malla Reddy.
