Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Khanamet in Madhapur on Thursday after Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) officials launched a demolition drive against shops allegedly constructed on temple land.
The authorities began razing down the structures, stating that the shops were built illegally within the temple premises. As demolition equipment moved in, temple priests, devotees and local residents gathered at the site and attempted to halt the operation, arguing that the structures had been in existence for years and were linked to the temple’s activities.
The situation quickly turned tense as heated arguments broke out between officials and protesters. The local police intervened and brought the situation under control. They took up necessary measures to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order in the area.
Meanwhile, the HYDRAA in a press release said that based on complaints received from the locals during Prajavani, teams were deployed and unauthorised structures demolished on five-acre land. HYDRAA installed the fencing to prevent further encroachment.
