In an interview to Telangana Today, Chinnaiah spoke about the efforts he was making and the measures he had initiated to contain the spread of the virus in his constituency
Mancherial: Bellampalli MLA Durgam Chinnaiah said that he is just a phone call away for Covid-19 patients and those who have been affected by the pandemic for help.
In an interview to Telangana Today, Chinnaiah spoke about the efforts he was making and the measures he had initiated to contain the spread of the virus and to instill confidence among the patients.
Excerpts:
TT: Tell us about your efforts to contain the Covid pandemic in the Bellampalli Assembly constituency?
MLA: As per instructions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, I and other local public representatives are striving hard to ensure quality medical services to the infected and extending all support to them. We are also providing drugs and oxygen to the patients who are undergoing treatment at the isolation centre in Bellampalli. We are helping those who get admitted to private hospitals in Mancherial and Hyderabad.
We requested MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao and Collector Bharati Hollikeri to create an isolation centre at the area hospital in Singareni Collieries Company Limited for people from Bellampalli Assembly constituency. It has helped the locals in accessing quality medical services. TRS leaders and activists are feeding the attendants of the infected at the facility.
TT: What is your role in offering quality medical services to patients at the isolation centre, the only facility in the district and neighbouring Kumram Bheem Asifabad district?
MLA: Following our request, doctors and paramedics at SCCL are discharging duties at the isolation centre. I monitor the facilities and interact with patients at regular intervals. I also ensured a sufficient supply of oxygen to the centre, and Remdesivir injections and other drugs for free. As many as 150 beds with oxygen facilities and 20 ventilators have been created. Patients are provided nutritious food.
TT: Apart from medical services, in what way are you helping the patients and affected by the lockdown?
MLA: Besides medical services, I distributed groceries worth Rs 810 each to over 4, 000 patients who are undergoing home isolation and to economically poor families who were hit by the pandemic by personally visiting their homes in Bellampalli town so far. I am trying to boost their morale by speaking to them and assuring all help. I am creating awareness among them over the precautionary measures.
Similarly, I arranged helplines enabling the patients to contact me for any help. Needy are suggested to dial 98662 42008 or 98497 15499 or 70323 3327 for assistance. I have requested Bellampalli Municipal Chairperson B Swetha and Vice-Chairperson Sudharshan to share their contact numbers on social media platforms for extending support to the infected.
TT: What do you have to tell the Covid patients and general public in the wake of the second wave of infections of the disease?
MLA: I urge civilians to wear face masks, sanitise hands and maintain physical distance to curtail the spread of the disease. I request family members of those who test positive for Covid to take extra care of themselves and the infected. I advise the general public to follow self-lockdown and to keep the virus at bay. I plead with them not to venture outdoors unless it is absolutely necessary.
