Hyderabad: Senior scientists from two Hyderabad-based research institutions Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) and LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) have been listed among top scientists in their respective fields of research in a Stanford University study that was published in the prestigious Plos journal.

The Stanford study ‘Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators’ included 16 scientists from CSIR-IICT and five scientists from LVPEI in the list. The IICT has topped among all other CSIR laboratories in India with 16 scientists figuring among two per cent of the world researchers in different areas of research.


The IICT scientists in the list include Dr Venkata Mohan in Biotechnology, Dr Darshan Ranganathan in General Chemistry, Dr SV Manorama in Materials, Dr Ahmed Kamal, Dr C Ganesh Kumar, Dr Ashok Kumar Tiwari, Dr JV Rao in Medicinal and Biomolecular Chemistry, former IICR Director, Dr JS Yadav, Dr G Sabitha, Dr Biswanath Das, present IICT Director Dr Srivari Chandrasekhar, Dr HM Meshram, Dr BV Subba Reddy in Organic Chemistry, Dr BM Reddy in Physical Chemistry, Dr S Palaniappan in Polymers and Dr Chittaranjan Patra in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

Apart from the 16 scientists, former Director Dr M Lakshmi Kantham, who is now with ICT Mumbai, former Deputy Director, Dr BM Choudhary who is now in Tezpur University and former Deputy Director Dr TK Chakraborty, who is now with IISC were also listed in the area of Organic Chemistry.

From LVPEI, Founder Chair, Dr Gullapalli N Rao, senior scientist and Director Emeritus, Prof Brien Holden Eye Research Centre, Prof D Balasubramanian, Director, Laboratory Services, Dr Savitri Sharma, visiting professor, Jill Keeffe have been featured in the database of top scientists under the discipline Ophthalmology. Distinguished scientist and former Director, Prof Brien Holden Eye Research Centre, LVPEI, Dr S Shivaji have been featured in Microbiology category. Two former members of LVPEI faculty, Dr Virender Sangwan and Dr Santosh Honavar are also included in the list.

On the occasion, IICT Director Dr S Chandrasekhar and Founder Chair, LVPEI Dr Gullapalli N Rao congratulated the scientists
