Hyderabad: union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay has condemned the detaining of ABVP activist protesting against the suicide of a dalit student studying in the second year Pre-University Course (PUC) at the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) in Basar. He demanded that the government immediately release the arrested ABVP activists.
Speaking to the media here on Saturday, Sanjay said the ABVP activists gathered at the Basar temple to draw the attention of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy about the incident, however, the police personnel, who were deployed as part of security arrangements for the minister’s visit, detained the ABVP activists for no reason.

A Pre-University Course (PUC) second-year student hanged herself in her hostel room on the IIIT Basar campus on November 11. The university authorities attributed the suicide to personal problems. However, her parents suspect the involvement of some students in her death. Police registered a case and are investigating. IIIT Basar has reported a spate of student suicides in recent years.
