IIIT Hyderabad, Hexagon R&D India set up Digital Twin Centre of Excellence

IIIT Hyderabad and Hexagon R&D India have collaborated to establish a Digital Twin Centre of Excellence at the institute. The centre will focus on computer vision, spatial computing and AI-enabled digital twins while providing students and researchers access to industry-grade technologies

Hyderabad: IIIT Hyderabad and Hexagon R&D India on Wednesday collaborated to establish the Hexagon Digital Twin Centre of Excellence (CoE) at IIIT Hyderabad.

The CoE will focus on advancing applied research, education and industry collaboration in computer vision, spatial computing and digital twins, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI). The collaboration will provide students, faculty and researchers at IIIT Hyderabad with access to Hexagon’s advanced precision-imaging laser scanner (Leica BLK360 G2, along with the relevant software package), which enables high-fidelity digital twin creation, a press release said.

The CoE will serve as a platform for research and innovation, supporting the development of prototypes, proofs of concept and solutions addressing real-world industry challenges. It will also create opportunities for students and researchers to work with industry-grade technologies and datasets while exploring new applications for spatial computing and computer vision, it said.

IIIT Hyderabad Director Prof. Sandeep K. Shukla said the collaboration with Hexagon would give the Institute’s researchers and students access to advanced technologies and real-world spatial data, creating opportunities to translate research from the lab into practical applications.
