Sangareddy: The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and Crimson Energy Experts Private Limited (CEEPL) completed the inaugural batch of ANUGYAN – Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme (NTOP) at the IITH campus. A total of 23 engineers and industry professionals completed the three-month, fully residential programme, which commenced on August 3.

Over twelve weeks, participants received structured training in reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, radiation shielding, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), nuclear safety, quality assurance and the regulatory framework of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). The curriculum combined academic instruction with laboratory experiments, generic nuclear power plant simulator training, technical case studies and practical insights from experienced professionals associated with India’s nuclear establishment, including BARC and NPCIL.

The programme was designed to bridge academic engineering education and the practical requirements of nuclear projects, equipping participants with an understanding of nuclear technologies, safety culture, quality standards and regulatory requirements. The successful completion of the inaugural batch marks an important milestone in industry–academia collaboration.

With India pursuing its ambition of increasing nuclear power capacity from approximately 8.8 GWe towards 100 GWe by 2047, the demand for trained professionals across design engineering, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, operations, quality assurance and safety is expected to increase significantly. ANUGYAN aimed to address this need while supporting emerging technologies, including SMRs and microreactors.

Chairperson of Central Electricity Authority (CEA) Ghanshyam Prasad said nuclear power will be an essential component of India’s clean, reliable and round-the-clock electricity supply as the country was advancing towards its 2047 goals. He said that realising India’s nuclear ambitions will require not only advanced technologies and infrastructure but also a strong pool of skilled professionals.

Director of IITH Prof BS Murty said ANUGYAN was conceived to combine strong academic foundations with an understanding of the practical, technological, safety and regulatory requirements of the nuclear industry.
