IITH to host 79th IIM Annual Technical Meeting, global experts to discuss materials for energy transition
The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) will hold its 79th Annual Technical Meeting and international conference at IIT-Hyderabad from December 4–6. The event brings 1,600+ participants and 40 international speakers to discuss advanced materials, critical minerals, and energy transition technologies.

Sangareddy: The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), a leading professional body for metallurgical and material engineering in the country, will be organising its 79th annual technical meeting (ATM 2025) and international conference on “advanced materials
and critical minerals for energy transition”.
Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad IITH will be hosting the three day ATM from December 4 to 6 at its campus in Kandi in Sanagreddy district.
The event will bring together leading experts from industry, academia, and research institutions to
deliberate on cutting-edge developments in metallurgy and materials science. A large number of
undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students will also be attending and presenting their recent
innovative research findings.
Overall more than 1,600 participants will be attending the 3 days conference.
President of IIM Prof B S Murty, who is also the Director of IITHy said the conference will foster stronger industry academia partnerships through presentations by leading experts and researchers. As part of the conference, he said that as many as 40 distinguished international speakers will be presenting their work in frontier areas.
Additionally, the IIM President said that they have invited 100 BTech and diploma students from across India to engage and learn from top professionals in the field. During this conference, the IIM is also organising special sessions on advances in steel in cooperation with the Japan Institute of Metals and Materials (JIMM), two sessions on frontier areas of materials engineering on high-entropy alloys (HEA) and integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) in collaboration with the minerals, metals & materials society (TMS), USA.
The focus in the international conference will be on advanced materials and critical minerals for energy transition. The IIM will be honoring the distinguished scientists, technologists, industrialists, academics and students for their outstanding contributions in their fields by presenting various awards. The IIM ATM and the preceding international conference will set the stage for meaningful
discussions among stakeholders to advance self-sustainability and develop future-ready technologies for a self-reliant India.
Vice President of IIM and CMD of MIDHANI, Dr SVS. Narayana Murty observed that
The materials were the backbone of any engineering component, from civilian to strategic applications.
Chairman IIM Hyderabad Chapter Dr SK Jha, Convenor ATM, Prof BS. Rao, Chairperson, Technical Committee of ATM Prof. Suhash R. Dey, and others were present.
