IMD forecasts pre-monsoon thundershowers in Telangana from May 28
The IMD has forecast the onset of pre-monsoon thundershowers across Telangana from May 28, bringing relief from the ongoing heatwave. Temperatures are expected to remain high until Wednesday before falling by 2–3°C, with thunderstorms and gusty winds likely statewide.

Hyderabad: In a clear sign of a transition from the current intense heatwave, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, on Sunday, in its forecast, has indicated the onset of pre-monsoon thundershowers across Telangana starting from Thursday, May 28.
While the state remains in the grip of a heatwave, with maximum temperatures across most districts expected to hover between 41 degrees Celsius and 44 degrees Celsius till Wednesday, the IMD has indicated a shift in weather is expected across Telangana from Thursday.
“No large change in maximum temperatures is expected during the next three days. Thereafter, a gradual fall of 2 degree Celsius to 3 degree Celsius is expected over the subsequent four days,” the IMD in its forecast on Sunday evening indicated.
In its weather forecast, the IMD, Hyderabad, however, made it clear that heat wave conditions are expected to remain active till Wednesday. Under its influence, all districts will witness maximum temperatures ranging from 41 to 44 degree Celsius.
The districts in Telangana where the mercury will cross 44 degree during the next Celsius include Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Jayashankar Bhupalapalle, Karimnagar, Khammam, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mahabubabad, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Nirmal, and Peddapalle.
By Thursday, the IMD forecast indicates widespread onset of pre-monsoon activity in the form of light to moderate rain/thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph across the State.
The thunderstorms (pre-monsoon) warning with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph has been issued to Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hanumakonda, Hyderabad, Jagtial, Jangaon, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Jogulamba Gadwal, Kamareddy, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Narayanpet, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Suryapet, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, Warangal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri (Bhongir).
