IMD warns of heavy rains across Telangana
The sudden change in weather is attributed to a deep depression over the south west Bay of Bengal, which has moved west-northwestwards and intensified into the cyclonic storm ‘Nivar’.
Hyderabad: Even as the city returned to colder nights after a brief respite from the chill, the India Meteorological Department, Hyderabad has issued a warning stating that there could be heavy rains in Hyderabad and across the State as well over the next three days.
According to the weather warning issued on Tuesday, heavy rain was likely to occur at isolated places in several districts including Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri on Wednesday, while there is a possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rain on Thursday as well. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning were likely on Friday, the warning said. The districts likely to be affected were Jogulamba Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Vikarabad, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Yadadri-Bhongir, Jangaon, Nalgonda, Narayanpet and Khammam.
The sudden change in weather is attributed to a deep depression over the south west Bay of Bengal, which has moved west-northwestwards and intensified into the cyclonic storm ‘Nivar’. This was very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours, an IMD report said.
“It is very likely to cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mamallapuram around Puducherry around evening on November 25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph,” officials said.
IMD’s impact based weather forecast for Wednesday has said necessary advisory may be issued by municipal corporations for displaying warnings on restricted movement and to remain alert on account of the heavy rains.
Meanwhile, after witnessing quite sultry weather over the last one week, the signs of a cold winter were back in the city on Monday, with the minimum temperatures dropping significantly to 15.4 degree Celsius, which is one degree Celsius below normal.
