Khammam: Telangana State Food Commission (TSFC) Chairman Kommula Thirumal Reddy has asked the official mechanism to make committed efforts for an effective implementation of the National Food Security Act-2013 in the district. He held a meeting with elected members of local bodies and officials of allied departments on the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), here on Tuesday. He wanted the common public educated about the Act so that they could draw its benefits.
Measures for setting up vigilance committees of allied departments and regular meetings should be held to strengthen their functioning. The NFSA prescribes supply of quality food grains at reasonable prices to the people besides offering benefits of all other welfare programmes, Thirumal Reddy said. Every official shoulders the responsibility of making the district move on a growth trajectory by efficient implementation of welfare and development works. Social audit was a must on the implementation of welfare schemes, he suggested.
Quality inspections have to be conducted frequently to check the standards of food grains, meetings on the proper supply of PDS rice, implementation of mid-day meals, NFSA, Anganwadi services and prevention of anaemia among the children have to be carried out on a regular basis, he added. Additional Collector N Madhusudhan explained about the measures taken on the implementation of NFSA-2013 in Khammam district. DRDO Vidyachandana, Civil Supplies Officer Rajender, Welfare Officer Ch Sandhya Rani, DM&HO Dr. B Malathi, Agriculture Officer Vijaya Nirmala, DEO S Yadaiah and others were present.
