Imran Pratapgarhi slams Owaisi for opportunistic politics after Shabbir Ali’s remarks
Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi criticised AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for what he termed opportunistic politics. Drawing parallels between Bihar’s Bahadurgunj and Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills bypolls, he accused Owaisi of double standards for supporting Congress in Telangana while opposing it in Bihar
Hyderabad: After Telangana Government Advisor Mohd Shabbir Ali accused the AIMIM of being the BJP’s ‘B’ team, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi hit out at AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for what he termed opportunistic politics.
Campaigning for Congress candidate Musaffir Alam in the Bahadurgunj constituency in Bihar, where the second phase of polling will be held on November 11, Pratapgarhi drew parallels with the Jubilee Hills by-election in Hyderabad, also scheduled for the same day.
“AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi claims that a vote for Congress will push people towards poverty. In contrast, the Hyderabad MP is campaigning for Congress candidate Naveen Yadav in Jubilee Hills. When he campaigns for Congress in Telangana, he is called a knowledgeable and experienced politician, but when people of Bahadurgunj vote for Congress, they are called firon (cruel). This kind of politics will not work in Seemanchal,” Imran Pratapgarhi is seen saying in a video circulating on social media.
The Congress MP further criticised Owaisi for his remarks and style of politics.
“When Musaffir Alam, Javed saab and other Congress leaders seek votes to bring the Mahagathbandhan to power, they are labelled as evil forces pushing people into poverty. If this is not abuse, what is it? By ensuring the defeat of Musaffir Alam and aiding the victory of others, what leadership or example are you setting?” the Congress MP asked the AIMIM chief.
The AIMIM has been facing criticism from various quarters, including within the community, for taking a U-turn and supporting the Congress. During the 2023 Assembly elections, the AIMIM chief had called the then TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud “RSS Anna”, but is now extending support to the Chief Minister and the Congress candidate in Jubilee Hills.
