Hyderabad: Frustration is simmering among the residents of Kalyan Nagar and Vengalrao Nagar in the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency over incomplete cement concrete roads in their colonies.
The residents are upset that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) started laying a new CC road network ahead of the by-poll schedule but left it unfinished for several weeks. This incomplete work, the residents said, has been causing inconvenience and posing safety hazards, with commuters facing difficulties navigating uneven surfaces and scattered debris.
“We were initially happy that damaged roads would finally receive a facelift after a gap of two decades, but the hopes evaporated as officials turned a blind eye to completing the works. For the past month, two and four-wheelers have not been coming out as the roads remain dug up,” said G Krishna Reddy, a resident of Kalyan Nagar.
Resident welfare association members point out that the deteriorating roads have made daily commutes difficult. The dug-up roads also disrupt traffic, with many vehicles forced to take alternative routes.
The process of the Jubilee Hills by-poll has been completed but officials forgot to complete the laying of new CC roads. The dug-up roads cause more inconvenience to senior citizens and children, who struggle to walk to reach the main roads. “School buses refuse to pick up the children. The delay in completing the unfinished roadwork has led to difficulties,” said B Usha Rani, a 70-year-old resident.
Officials overseeing the Jubilee Hills by-poll left the new cement concrete roads incomplete after voting concluded, leaving dug-up stretches that are causing extreme inconvenience, the residents said. An employee of a leading bank branch at Kalyan Nagar said the number of consumers visiting the bank has reduced as the roads are hard to drive or walk on.
Affected families expressed their anguish over delivery personnel for both LPG gas and goods not delivering on time due to the damaged roads. The RWAs urged the GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan to resume and complete the pending repair works of the damaged roads to improve the quality of life for residents.
