Indian-American Veena Reddy arrives as USAID Mission Director to India
A Telugu woman, Veena Reddy as Mission Director, will lead USAID’s operations in India and Bhutan. She is the first Indian-American to lead USAID in India and Bhutan.

Hyderabad: Veena Reddy, a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service, arrived in Delhi on Thursday to take charge as the new Mission Director for U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in India.
A Telugu woman, Veena Reddy as Mission Director, will lead USAID’s operations in India and Bhutan. She is the first Indian-American to lead USAID in India and Bhutan.
Born in Andhra Pradesh, she had an extensive career as a U.S. Foreign Service and served as USAID’s Mission Director in Cambodia. Earlier, she also served as its Deputy mission Director in Haiti.
Before getting into the U.S. federal government service, Reddy was a corporate attorney, holding a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Columbia University School of Law, M. A. and B. A. from the University of Chicago.
“USAID partnered with people and government of India over the past seven decades and I look forward to strengthening our relationship. The COVID-19 pandemic has taken an enormous human and economic toll on India and beyond. I am confident that with the U.S.-India partnership, we will continue to move forward towards prosperity,” said Reddy, regarding her appointment.
