Karimnagar: Maha Shivaratri celebrations in Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple, Vemulawada, started off on a colorful note. Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy along with BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister, Gangula Kamalakar and cultural council chairman Rasamai Balkishan presented silk cloths to the presiding deity on behalf of the state government on Tuesday morning.

Continuing the tradition, Thirumala Thirupathi temple officials have also presented silk cloths to the lord Shiva. Endowment commissioner Anil Kumar, district collector Anurag Jayanthi, additional collector Bheemya Naik, temple executive director Rama Devi and others were also present on the occasion.

On the other hand, cultural programmes in the name of ‘Shivarchana’ have started on Monday night. Vemulwada MLA Ch Ramesh Babu along with Zilla Parish chairperson Nyalakonda Aruna launched cultural programmes at the temple tank parking place. A huge number of devotees thronged the shrine to take part in a three-day Maha Shivaratri jatara. Temple town was jam-packed with pilgrims coming from different parts of the state as well as adjacent states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh.

Devotees were seen standing in queue lines to have a darshan of lord Shiva on the occasion of Shivaratri. Temple authorities made elaborate arrangements for the convenience of the pilgrims.
