Infra for sports in rural areas soon: Vinod Kumar

Karimnagar: Buoyed by the successful transformation of villages with the implementation of Palle Pragathi programme in Telangana, the State government is mulling to encourage rural sports by providing necessary infrastructure facilities such as creating grounds for kabaddi, kho-kho etc.

TS Planning Board Vice-Chairman B Vinod Kumar announced this while participating in the closing ceremony of the two-day rural sports meet organised by Karimnagar DCCB at Ambedkar Stadium here on Monday.


Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was planning to encourage sports in rural areas by providing infrastructure to play the sports. Accordingly, the government would create grounds and provide necessary sports kits, he stated.

Stating that the villages were being transformed with the implementation of Palle Pragathi, he said there was steady increase of green coverage in the villages with the plantation of saplings, cleanliness drive, garbage dumping yards, roads, construction of Vaikunta Dhamams (crematoriums) etc.

He said that the government would encourage sports in villages to produce sportspersons to compete in national and international events. Hoping that the country would progress to host the Olympics in 10 to 15 years, he said that Hyderabad would definitely host several Olympics games, and called upon the rural youth to aim to win medals to the country. He also told the budding sportspersons to take up sports as a profession.

Vinod Kumar appreciated the Karimnagar DCCB for organising the rural sports meet as part of its centenary celebrations.

TSCAB Chairman Konduru Ravinder Rao promised to take necessary measures for providing sports quota in the recruitment process in the cooperative banks by talking to authorities concerned. He also said that they would examine the possibility of sponsoring talented sports persons for national and international events.

Stating that the Karimnagar DCCB had emerged number one cooperative bank on several aspects, he urged the rural youth to join the cooperative bank fold and avail benefits.

Mayor Y Sunil Rao, DCCB vice chairman P Ramesh, CEO N Satyanarayana Rao, directors Swamy Reddy, P Krishna Prasad, general managers B Sridhar and Md Riazuddin and DGM Satya Prasad and others were present.
