INSA selects Prof Appa Rao Podile for senior scientist position
The Indian National Science Academy has selected Prof Appa Rao Podile, former University of Hyderabad Vice-Chancellor, for its Senior Scientist position. The three-year role recognises his contributions to microbiology, plant biotechnology, and sustainable agriculture research.

Hyderabad: Indian National Science Academy (INSA), the premier science academy of India, has selected Prof Appa Rao Podile, former Vice-Chancellor of University of Hyderabad, for the prestigious INSA Senior Scientist position for an initial period of three years.
Under this programme, Prof Podile will be affiliated with the School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad, where he will continue his contributions to advanced research, mentoring, and institutional development.
Prof Podile is an eminent microbiologist and plant biotechnologist with over four decades of distinguished academic and research experience. He is widely recognised for his pioneering work in plant–microbe interactions, biological control of plant diseases, and sustainable agriculture.
His research has significantly contributed to understanding rhizosphere biology and the development of eco-friendly microbial technologies for crop improvement.
As Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, Prof Podile played a transformative role in strengthening academic programmes, fostering interdisciplinary research, and enhancing the university’s national and global standing.
