Hyderabad: A love affair that began with casual interactions on Instagram ended tragically for a woman from Malakpet here when she allegedly committed suicide after being cheated in the name of marriage. The man was arrested on Wednesday by the Malakpet police.
The arrested, Aman, aged around 25, hailing from Warangal district had met the victim over Instagram last year. The two gradually got close and in March this year, they decided to get married and informed a relative of the woman as well. Police said the duo, during this time, was moving around in the city together, during which the suspect is said to have sexually assaulted her too.
Later, the woman’s parents asked Aman to bring his parents to the city so that they could fix the date of the marriage. However, he switched off his mobile and went absconding. “Depressed over this, the victim hanged herself to death at her house last month. A case was booked against Aman and police were on the lookout for him. He was tracked down and arrested on Wednesday,” the police said, adding that Aman had taken money as well on several instances from the victim apart from asking her to pawn her jewellery.
Woman assaulted
In a separate case, the Golconda police arrested a man who sexually assaulted a woman at her house two days ago. The suspect, Kumar of Karnataka, was staying in a relative’s apartment in Begum Bazaar. On the night of August 26, he called the victim, who lived in the same building, saying that he had some pictures of her that he had got. “When she came downstairs, he took her into a room and raped her,” police said, adding that the woman did not tell her husband out of fear. However, the victim’s husband found from mobile phone call history that the suspect was calling her, after which the couple approached the police. Kumar was arrested and produced before the court.
