Hyderabad: Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) stepped up efforts to set up an integrated sports village in a 15-acre plot in Gajwel town to benefit the sportspersons, according to Authority chairman A Venkateshwar Reddy here on Sunday.
Following the direction from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to develop sports infrastructure, the SATS chairman visited Gajwel town and along with the district Collector and identified a 15-acre land site for the development of an integrated sports village. The SATS chairman said proposals were being worked out to set up a Football academy with astroturf and grass ground, indoor stadia with a synthetic athletic track which could be used for training sportspersons in Badminton, Volley Ball, Judo, Wrestling, Boxing and Kabaddi was being contemplated.
Based on a proposal from Finance Minister T Harish Rao, plans were being finalised for the construction of a multi-purpose indoor stadium, a modern swimming pool and hostel facilities for sportspersons. The Minister had already written a letter to the academy seeking allocation of funds. Talks were being held with the representatives of associations of Handball, Boxing, Wrestling, Volley Ball, Taekwando, Karate, Judo, Foot Ball, Weight Lifting and Hockey associations for the conduct of competitions also.
