Integrated Sports Village to be developed in Gajwel

Hyderabad: Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) has stepped up efforts to set up an integrated sports village in a 15-acre plot in Gajwel town to benefit the sportspersons, according to Authority chairman A Venkateshwar Reddy here on Sunday.
Following the direction from the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to develop sports infrastructure, the SATS chairman visited Gajwel town and along with the district collector and other officials have identified a 15-acre land site for development of an integrated sports village. The SATS chairman said proposals were being worked out to set up a Football academy with AstroTurf and grass ground, indoor stadia with synthetic athletic track which could be used for training sportspersons in Badminton, Volley Ball, Judo, Wrestling, Boxing and Kabaddi was being contemplated.
Based on a proposal from the Finance minister T Harish Rao, plans were being finalised for construction of multi-purpose indoor stadium, a modern swimming pool and hostel facilities for sportspersons. The minister had already written a letter to the academy seeking allocation of funds. Talks were also being held with the representatives of associations of Handball, Boxing, Wrestling, Volley Ball, Taekwando, Karate, Judo, Football, Weight Lifting and Hockey associations for conduct of competitions also.
