The National Research Foundation envisioned in the New Education Policy not only focuses on scientific research but also is a catalyst in promoting quality research in art, music, philosophy, writing, etc.
Art is undoubtedly an expression that can bring out creativity and imagination from within. Integrating art into education helps to make the entire teaching and learning process joyful and fun. Gone are the days when teachers used to teach in the class using lecture methods. Now using various creative ways has become the need of the hour.
At Delhi Public School, Mahendra Hills, the arts (fine arts, drama, music, movement) have always been an integrated part of our curriculum. We weave art into our core classroom curricula as well as teach specific artistic skills and abilities.
Capsule courses are conducted to showcase the various techniques of learning English like prepositions through Art Integration, Poetry with Puppetry, Drama in English Literature, comics, etc. During one such capsule course prepositions were taught through Art Integration. Stu- dents were asked to draw based ZPHS, BHEL on the dictation of prepositions.
The activity was not only engag- ing but also educative. Art instruction helps children with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, and inventiveness. The school incorporates all the new methodologies to bring out the overall development of the students.
We all are surrounded by different types and categories of students and hence teaching them as per their needs and requirements is very important. Teachers cannot apply the same teaching methods to all types of students, therefore, integrating art in education certainly helps to cater to this need. Integrating Art in education brings out the best within the child and hence provides holistic development.
