Karimnagar: Karimangar police busted an inter-district cell tower batteries thieves gang and arrested five of its members. A total of Rs 1.20 lakh cash, 37 cell tower batteries, five mobile phones and a car were recovered from them.
In a statement here om Friday, police said the accused came to collect cell tower batteries near Chigurumamidi, where they had hidden them some time ago. Based on reliable information, they detained the accused at Kothapalli.
Madasu Vinod alias Veeresh (25), Thathanagar of Yadadri Bhongir, Garlapati Bhaskar Reddy (25), Sirinagandla, Ongur mandal of Mahabubnagar, Thummalapalli Sairam Reddy (24), Peruvala, Neredugumma mandal of Nalgonda, and Jummalla Jaswanth (21), Driver colony of Badrachalam were arrested.
Based on the information given by them, police arrested Padamiti Ramulu (50) of Katedan of Hyderabad, who used to purchase batteries from the gang. On questioning, they confessed the crime.
Vinod, Bhaskar Reddy, Sairam Reddy and Jaswanth used to work as drivers in SRK transport, Hayathnagar, Hyderabad and stay at Pedda Ambarpet and LB Nagar of Hyderabad.
While working with a transport firm, they used to transport cell tower materials to different parts of the state. They used to observe the process to fix batteries in cell towers. Since they have an idea of how to fix and remove batteries, they have decided to make money by stealing batteries,
The gang, which stated burglary from September, committed crime in Chigurumamidi, Thimmapur, Renikunta of Karimnagar, Rajagopalapeta and Cherial of Siddipet, Yellareddy, Bibipet and Domakonda of Kamareddy, Choutuppal, Doultabad, Mulugu and Ramayampet of Rachakonda police commissionerate.
Main accused, Vinod was involved in eight cases in Yadadri-Bhongir district. A history sheet was also opened on him.
