Hyderabad: The Cybercrime police on Saturday apprehended an intermediate first year student on charges of stalking and harassing a minor girl, who was his college mate.
The 16-year-old boy, a student of a private college from Laxmapur, was attending online classes in view of the pandemic. His parents, both labourers, had bought him a smartphone for education purposes.
According to the police, the suspect took the number of the girl from the WhatsApp group created by the college administration as part of conducting online classes and started calling and messaging her.
When she rejected his calls, he captured her WhatsApp profile picture and morphed it and sent it to her. He then started threatening her that if she rejected him, he would publicise her pictures.
Based on a complaint from the girl’s father, the police booked a case and arrested him.
