A Hyderabad court sentenced five Nepali nationals to seven days in jail for harassing a woman near Nizam College PG Hostel on May 27. The Abid Road police arrested the accused, who were later convicted by the Nampally court on Friday.

Officials stated that between November 16 and December 15, they received complaints from various sources, including direct reports, WhatsApp messages, and social media, regarding hotspots such as metro trains, stations, bus stops, workplaces, and colleges across the Rachakonda area.

Police reported that M Ramakrishna (21), a BTech student from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, had been stalking the complainant by using her morphed photos on social media. He allegedly threatened to share the images with her friends and family if she continued to avoid him.

About a year ago, the 18-year-old woman from Kacheguda became friends with the suspect Sai Kiran alias Nani (20), a daily wage worker from Shivrampalli through a social networking platform. Since then, both continued their friendship.

The she teams conducted decoy operations and caught 120 people including 44 minors at public places red handed when they were harassing women.

The court after the trial convicted and sentenced the man to a six-day jail term. It also imposed a fine of Rs. 200 on him.

The official allegedly demanded Rs.25,000 from a woman employee to sanction maternity leave.

The She Teams received the complaints from the victims through email, WhatsApp and other social media platforms apart from direct walk-ins. 

The Rachakonda police registered cases against a few of them while the others were let off after a warning and counselling

After the video emerged, the police reached out to the victim -- who hails from the northeast, and initiated legal proceedings based on her statement.

The police invoked 498A of IPC and 3 r/w 4 of The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 and are investigating case.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner D.S.Chauhan appreciated the efforts of the investigation officer and team in securing conviction in the case.

The action was taken after two videos of the students passing lewd comments at the teacher went viral on social media platforms.
