Hyderabad: Interruptions, arguments, and protests by corporators of different political hues marred the day-long GHMC general body meeting proceedings on Tuesday.
Protests and objections by AIMIM corporators rocked the GHMC meeting over the decision of
Hyderabad Mayor G Vijayalakshmi to play ‘
Vande Mataram’ at the request of Medak BJP MP Raghunandan Rao.
In the midst of the commotion, Congress party corporators started demanding that the Mayor play ‘Jaya Jaya He Telangana’, the State government’s official song penned by late Ande Sri.
Finally, when the Mayor agreed to play the ‘Vande Mataram’ song, a few AIMIM corporators protested by sitting out.
Later, the State song was also played, in which all the corporators, irrespective of their political affiliations, participated.
During the course of the meeting, the Mayor had to direct the Marshals to act on corporators, who protested by standing on their chairs.
