Hyderabad: Industries and IT Minister KT Rama Rao requested the Indian diaspora to come forward and invest in Telangana.
Speaking at a meet and greet programme, organised by ITServe Alliance in New Jersey, he explained about the IT ecosystem in Hyderabad. He also highlighted the Growth in Dispersion (GRID) policy that aims to spread to IT to multiple locations. The Telangana Government is developing IT infrastructure in the north and eastern parts of the city, he said.
He also urged the NRI fraternity to be part of the ‘Mana Ooru – Mana Badi’ initiative to support schools in the State. The Telangana Government is upgrading the educational infrastructure in the State on a large scale, he said.
Highlighting the achievements of Telangana, he said State’s per capita income has now touched Rs 2.78 lakh now from the Rs 1.24 lakh at State’s formation. The GSDP was Rs 4.9 lakh crore in 2014 and it has now crossed Rs 11.54 lakh crore, he said crediting the rapid strides in development in the State to the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
Telangana has done well in various sectors despite the Covid pandemic, demonetisation, and also an unsupportive Central Government, he said.
“Telangana is the 11th largest State geographically and 12th largest in population. But according to the Reserve Bank of India, Telangana has emerged as the fourth largest contributor to India’s economic growth,” he said.
Before Telangana State came into being, farmers faced a lot of issues due to power crises and the industry had power holidays for 2-3 days. Telangana focused on resolving power crises and as a result the State’s installed power capacity had doubled in the past seven years. “The scenario has changed as 24/7 free power is being given to farmers. Uninterrupted quality power supply is being given to industries. Very few states in India can claim something like this. All households in Telangana have potable drinking water,” Rama Rao said.
Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, which is providing water for irrigation, was conceived and completed in less than four years. The Union Government had never supported the State on this Project nor has lauded the efforts, he pointed out.
More than 12,750 villages in Telangana have a nursery, graveyard, dumpyard, and potable drinking water. “In the Government of India’s Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) awards, seven villages out of the top ten villages across the country are from Telangana,” he said.
On the health front, he said Telangana is strengthening healthcare infrastructure and setting up medical colleges. It has also set up over 350 Basthi Dawakhanas for the poor in the city. Plans are on to start village health clinics. The Government has recently launched the prestigious Telangana Health Profile initiative to improve the quality of healthcare services. Pilot was launched in Sircilla and Mulugu districts. “We are building digital medical records for every citizen in Telangana. We want to use the data for healthcare strategy,” Rama Rao said.
He felicitated Dr Nori Dattatreyudu, a noted Indian radiation oncologist.
