Warangal: The State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Raiparthy was locked bringing the operations to a halt by a group of customers on Friday.
The customers staged a sit-in in front of the bank as they failed to elicit proper response from the branch officials on the fate of the gold pledged or deposited with the bank by them. About 16 kgs of gold belonging to 48 clients was stolen from the bank on October 18 last year.
After several representations and protests, the bank officials set April 4 as the deadline for resolving the issue. The aggrieved customers met the officials concerned on Friday morning. But they were reportedly asked to come to the bank once again on next Monday.
Angered with the bankers’ response, they resorted to the flash protest, taking the bank staff by surprise. Bank officials attempted to pacify the protesters, but in vain. The protesters relented only after the intervention of the police.
