Hyderabad: With vaccination picking up pace and Covid-19 cases dipping in the State, several IT companies are slowly but steadily calling employees back to office. However, in the new normal, not all employees will be returning to the office and not all will be working from home.
And that is where the hybrid model is gaining traction and becoming the norm in Hyderabad. Under this model, while some companies are looking at calling employees either two to three times a week, some are looking at doing rotation of employees and some want employees to book their seats one day before they intend to attend office.
And the different models are being implemented according to the size of the company with larger companies looking at seat bookings, and mid and small size companies going for rotation models.
“Large companies can manage with a majority of their employees working from the office, which may not be the case with small and mid-size companies. So, in the former workspaces, they have developed either a seat booking mechanism wherein employees can book their seats either one day in advance or for the whole week and come to the office whenever they feel like. In the mid and small-size companies, the hybrid model that is being followed is either to do a rotation of employees as per the team size or call employees two or maximum three days a week to avoid crowding,” Bharani K Aroll, president, Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (Hysea), told Telangana Today.
Not just locally, but globally too this phenomenon is picking pace.
Recently, Google CEO Sundar Pichai mentioned in an email to his employees about the ‘hybrid model’ and said that as per the model 60 per cent of the employees would come together in the office a few days every week, another 20 per cent would work in new office locations, and the remaining 20 per cent would work from home.
Following suit were IT giants like TCS, Wipro and Infosys who have all announced that while they would like employees to return to office it would not be done at the cost of their health. So most of them are also looking at the hybrid model of work – which experts believe will define the future of work.
“By October end, we are hoping that most of the IT employees in Hyderabad will be fully vaccinated and are looking at the percentage of employees returning to office to go up considerably by that time,” Aroll informed.
