Hyderabad: Hiring activity in India seems to be on an upward trend with new data suggesting that for the first time since the pandemic, the hiring activity is at a pre-pandemic baseline. A report by Indeed points out that sectors like Information Technology (IT), Sanitation and Retail are fueling the demand with the job postings for IT tech software roles seeing a 19 per cent increase between July 2020 and July 2021.

As an expected outcome of the pandemic-induced digitization, job posting for IT roles such as project head and engineer saw an increase of 8-16 per cent. Similarly, with easing of lockdown restriction and reopening of spaces sharpened the focus on hygiene and sanitisation. Indeed’s data reflected a 60 per cent rise in demand for housekeepers, caretakers, housekeeping managers, custodians, executive housekeepers, and cleaners between July 2020 and July 2021.

The number of job roles in the food and retail sector witnessed an increase of 52 per cent and 39 per cent respectively in the same period while the demand for HR and finance roles grew by 27 per cent each.

In addition, the report pointed out that with people confined to their homes the need for physical and mental well-being has gained prominence. Almost 89 per cent increase was seen in clicks applying for therapy jobs while veterinary jobs saw 216 per cent rise and personal care, childcare and dental jobs saw 155 per cent, 115 per cent and 108 per cent rise.

Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales, Indeed India said, “The reopening of the economy and the efforts by businesses to work around the challenges presented by Covid-19 has pushed the Indian job market towards recovery. While the relevance of tech jobs continues to be high, the renewed demand for retail and food jobs indicates that the consumption economy will play an important role in driving job growth further. Meanwhile, hygiene clearly has become a top priority for both employers and job seekers.”
