Kothagudem: The importance of rainwater harvesting, efficient irrigation and sustainable agricultural techniques was highlighted at ‘Water Mela-2025’ organised by ITC Mission Sunehra Kal (MSK).

The event was organised in collaboration with Mysore Resettlement and Development Agency (MYRADA) and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiative of World Health Organisation (WHO) at Burgampadu in the district.

The event brought together key stakeholders from government departments, industries and local communities to discuss strategies for achieving water positivity and sustainability. Experts stressed reducing water usage in paddy cultivation through direct seeded rice (DSR) and alternate wetting and drying (AWD) technology, which help lower water consumption and cultivation costs.

The event also showcased ITC MSK’s efforts in WASH initiatives, including household and community toilets, hand wash platforms and running water connections in schools and Anganwadi centres. Liquid waste management solutions like soak pits and kitchen gardens were highlighted for their role in groundwater recharge and environmental sustainability.

ITC chief manager (HR) Chengal Rao stressed on the urgent need for collective action in sustainable water management. He reaffirmed ITC MSK’s commitment to water stewardship, environmental sustainability and community well-being. The event called for collaboration among industries, farmers, and policymakers to secure water resources for future generations.

Executive engineer (Irrigation department) HV Ramprasad, agriculture assistant director Tata Rao, KVK programme officer Laxmi Narayanamma, CDPO, ICDS K Revathi, ITC officials Phani and Jayaprakash Ramasamy attended the event, besides 200 local farmers.
