ITC MSK launches soil and moisture conservation activity in Kothagudem

Kothagudem: ITC Mission Sunehra Kal has launched soil and moisture conservation (SMC) activities in a biodiversity plot at Sarapaka in Burgampadu mandal in the district on Monday. The initiative was taken up in association with the forest department in the district. Two mini percolation tanks, 20 rockfill dams, 15 stone gully plugs and four sunken ponds, informed the Mission Sunehra Kal (MSK) programme manager Jayaprakash.
The water harvesting structures were aimed at increasing the moisture level and moisture holdings capacity in about 250 acres of forest area. The structures would also help to reduce the forest degradation, surface run off and soil erosion. In addition to preventing soil erosion the structures would have long term impact enhancing soil fertility, regenerating forests, grasslands and vegetation. Retaining the greenery in the forests helps increase the movement for wild animals, he explained.
Forest range officer Renuka, DRO Venkateswara Rao, ITC-PSPD unit head Siddharth Mohanty, Chief Manager Chengal Rao, Society for Sampoorna Grama Swaraj (SSGS) Director Krishna Kishore and others were present.
