Hyderabad: A growing number of legislators from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s home district, Palamuru, are expressing discontent over inadequate funds for development works in their constituencies.
After Mahabubnagar MLA Yennem Srinivas Reddy, who sought an annual allocation of at least Rs.25 crore, Jadcherla MLA J Anirudh Reddy has now echoed the same demand.
The Jadcherla MLA also criticised the poor allocation of funds to the erstwhile Palamuru district, accusing the government of favouring other regions such as Khammam and Nalgonda.
Yennem Srinivas Reddy last month had urged the government to provide more funds to legislators to address local issues. In an article in a vernacular daily, he had alleged that the State government was spending less than 10 per cent of what it allocates to welfare schemes and mega projects on local developmental works.
“The State government should ensure that legislators annually spend Rs.25 crore in their respective constituencies,” he had stated.
Extending his support, Anirudh Reddy, in a video circulating on social media, said an allocation of Rs.25 crore to each MLA would help take up basic works such as laying drainage lines and other civic projects.
“As funds will be readily available, there will be no delay in issuing proceedings. Party workers or contractors who take up the work will not face inconvenience,” he said.
The Jadcherla MLA pointed out that 12 MLAs, including the Chief Minister, represent constituencies from the erstwhile Palamuru district, yet the allocation there remains much lower than in other districts.
“I will raise this issue in the next Assembly session. How much was allotted to Khammam and Nalgonda needs to be checked. After 12 MLAs won from Palamuru, if others take away more funds, we will not tolerate it,” he said.
Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy had also gave the same call earlier, demanding that the State government allot sufficient funds to all MLAs to take up local development works.
