Suryapet: Holding the Congress government squarely responsible for poor management of scarce water resources and its fallout in the state, BRS MLA and former Minister G. Jagadish Reddy on Saturday said that the government was lacking a proper water plan and continued to be indifferent to the irrigation needs of the farmers.

Reddy labeled the government as anti-farmer and accused the Chief Minister of being solely focused on embezzling funds through commissions.

Reddy claimed that 20% of the state’s funds are being siphoned off through commissions, with contractors staging protests at the Secretariat and some even resorting to suicide.

He stated that the public was left frustrated with scarcity conditions. The arrival of the Congress party has brought about a drought. He urged the government to take corrective measures and stop the rampant corruption in Telangana.

Reddy highlighted that only large contractors were being paid, while small contractors are driven to suicide due to non-payment. He demanded a response from the Finance Minister and called for the release of a white paper on the issue. Reddy vowed to raise these concerns in the upcoming Assembly sessions.

He further criticized the Congress leaders for their ignorance, which has resulted in water problems despite sufficient water being available in the Godavari and Krishna rivers.

Reddy pointed out that crops are withering across the state, and the government has failed to provide adequate electricity. He claimed that the situation has reverted to pre-2014 conditions.

Reddy also accused the government of not operating the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project for sand mining purposes and criticized the Telangana Chief Minister for turning into a silent spectator as Andhra Pradesh proposed to utilize Godavari water.
