Jagtial man gets life term for murdering wife in drunken rage

Jagtial: The Jagtial district court on Wednesday sentenced Erra Chandraiah to life imprisonment for killing his wife Gangaraju in a fit of rage.
First Additional District and Sessions Judge Sugali Narayana pronounced the judgment and also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on the convict.
Chandraiah, a daily wage labourer from Yakinpur under Korutla police station limits, used to earn a living along with his wife. Known for his alcohol addiction, he would regularly harass his wife and their son.
On October 29, 2022, he had a heated argument with Gangaraju, during which he murdered her in an inebriated state. He later dumped her body in the SRSP canal on the outskirts of Yakinpur and stole her gold ornaments.
Following a complaint lodged by their son, Sudheer, Korutla police registered a case and launched an investigation. Based on the evidence gathered and witness testimonies, police arrested Chandraiah and produced him in court.
Judge Sugali Narayana, after examining the case, found him guilty and awarded the sentence.
